Witnesses; BPL worker was stuck to poll after electrocution

A Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) employee has died after he was electrocuted while carrying out work on a high-voltage utility pole in Grand Cay on Tuesday night.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Lawrence "LJ" Cooper, whose sudden death has left co-workers, family members and residents in mourning.

According to police, the fatal industrial accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Preliminary reports indicate that Cooper, a BPL employee, was working on a high-voltage utility pole when he was reportedly electrocuted.

Eyewitnesses said Cooper remained on the utility pole following the incident while emergency responders worked to safely recover him. He was eventually removed from the pole and rushed to the Grand Cay Clinic, where medical personnel administered lifesaving measures.

Despite their efforts, Cooper succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m.

News of his death spread quickly on social media, where friends and colleagues remembered him affectionately as "LJ" and expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy.

It was not immediately known how long Cooper had been employed with Bahamas Power and Light.

Police in Grand Cay are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal industrial accident. Authorities have not yet indicated what may have caused the electrocution.
