Subusola Lawanson-Swain sworn in as Vice President of Industrial Tribunal

Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Lawanson-Swain was officially sworn in as Vice President of the Bahamas Industrial Tribunal today, more than a year after she was sworn in for the role in an acting capacity.


The swearing-in ceremony was held at Government House this afternoon and attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Labour, including Director of Labour Howard Thompson and Labour Consultant Bernard Evans.


The ceremony marked a formal transition for Lawanson-Swain, whose judicial service has been widely praised for its diligence, integrity, and legal acumen.


The Bahamas Industrial Tribunal plays a vital role in the country’s labour landscape, offering a swift and cost-effective forum for the resolution of employment disputes in both essential and non-essential sectors. The tribunal is responsible for hearing and determining trade disputes, registering industrial agreements, and adjudicating related matters in accordance with the Industrial Relations Act.


Lawanson-Swain’s official appointment comes after a distinguished career on the bench, during which she presided over several high-profile cases.


Her career as a member of the Judiciary has been marked by a commitment to upholding justice.
