Prominent businessman and Bahamas ambassador Sebas Bastian officially stepped into the political arena today, appearing before the Progressive Liberal Party’s Candidates Committee as he seeks to represent the Fort Charlotte constituency in the next general election.

The atmosphere outside the party's headquarters was electric, as Bastian arrived flanked by family members, close friends, and a strong showing of Fort Charlotte constituents, many of whom have already begun rallying around his candidacy.

Bastian, CEO of Island Luck and a notable figure in business and philanthropy, has emerged as the party’s leading choice to replace Fort Charlotte MP Alfred Sears, who recently announced he will not seek re-election.

Sears has since given Bastian his full endorsement, calling him a capable and visionary leader poised to build on the progress made in the constituency.

Following his meeting with the Candidates Committee, Bastian acknowledged the weight of the moment.

“There were a lot of questions about the plans I have for Fort Charlotte,” he said, “I think the process was very well thought out and they asked a lot of great questions.”

Bastian also confirmed that he met with Sears to discuss the path forward and how best to continue initiatives that are already underway in Fort Charlotte.

As speculation about his political ambitions swirled in recent weeks, critics have raised concerns about Bastian's current role as CEO of Island Luck, a prominent gaming company. Addressing the issue directly, Bastian said he understands the public interest and is prepared to take the necessary steps to avoid conflicts of interest.

“I over 20 companies and I'm only the CEO of one. I didn't build my business by myself. I have more and competent teams to try continuity in those businesses. I may have to serve, I have a higher purpose now, and I'm going to focus on that.”

While the final candidate slate has yet to be officially confirmed by the PLP, Bastian’s appearance before the committee and the high-profile backing of MP Alfred Sears signal strong momentum behind his bid.
