Fort Charlotte Member of Parliament and Minister of Immigration and National Insurance Alfred Sears has officially announced that he will not seek a Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) nomination in the next general election.

Sears made the announcement during his contribution to the ongoing Budget debate in the House of Assembly, informing Prime Minister Philip Davis of his decision to not run.

The veteran lawmaker has served four non-consecutive terms as the MP for Fort Charlotte, holding various high-profile Cabinet positions over the years, including Attorney General and Minister of Education during the Christie administrations.

A respected voice within the PLP, Sears once vied for the party’s leadership but was unsuccessful in his bid.

While he did not disclose his future plans during his announcement, Sears expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reflected on his decades-long commitment to public life.

The PLP has yet to indicate who may be considered to replace Sears as the party’s standard-bearer in Fort Charlotte.
