Rahming Hits Ground Running with Push to Assist Inner-City Communities

Minister of Urban Renewal and Community Relations Lisa Rahming is wasting no time delivering on her ministry’s commitment to improve the quality of life for Bahamians, launching initiatives aimed at eliminating outside toilets in inner-city communities and enhancing accessibility for persons living with disabilities.

Since the May 12 General Election, Rahming has been actively engaging communities and assessing the needs of vulnerable residents as part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to restore dignity and improve living standards throughout The Bahamas.

One of the minister's top priorities is the eradication of outside toilets, a longstanding issue that continues to affect some families in underserved communities. The initiative seeks to ensure that residents have access to safe and modern indoor sanitation facilities, bringing greater comfort, privacy and dignity to households.

In addition to improving sanitation, Rahming is spearheading efforts to make daily life easier for Bahamians with disabilities and special needs. Through the Urban Renewal programme, qualifying residents can receive assistance with the installation of bathroom fixtures designed to improve mobility and safety, as well as outdoor ramps and railings that provide easier access to their homes.

To qualify for assistance, applicants must be Bahamian citizens and demonstrate financial need.

Rahming, who was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Marathon, previously served as Minister of State for Urban Renewal. Her elevation to a substantive ministerial role has placed her at the forefront of community development initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable populations and strengthening neighborhoods.

The minister has consistently focused on the importance of restoring dignity to residents while building stronger and more inclusive communities.

The ministry's latest initiatives form part of a broader vision to improve living conditions, promote accessibility and foster greater social inclusion across The Bahamas.
