Prime Minister Philip Davis was officially sworn in for a second consecutive term this morning following the Progressive Liberal Party’s historic landslide victory in the May 12 general election.

The ceremony was held at Government House and attended by PLP candidates, senior party officials, supporters and former parliamentarians, marking the beginning of another five-year term for the Davis administration.

The Progressive Liberal Party secured a commanding 33 of the country’s 41 parliamentary seats in Tuesday’s election, delivering one of the party’s strongest performances in modern political history and cementing Davis’ leadership following a campaign centered on economic growth, infrastructure development and social assistance initiatives.

The victory was especially significant as it marked the first time since 1997 that a governing party in The Bahamas has been re-elected, breaking a decades-long pattern of voters removing incumbent administrations after a single term.

In brief remarks following the ceremony, Davis thanked Bahamians for their vote of confidence and pledged that his administration would continue working to improve the lives of citizens across the country.
