PM mourns death of former MP Neville Wisdom

Prime Minister Philip Davis is mourning the death of former Progressive Liberal Party Member of Parliament and former Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Neville Wisdom, remembering him as a committed public servant whose contributions to politics, sports, culture and national development will not be forgotten.

“Ann and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Neville Wisdom, former Progressive Liberal Party Member of Parliament, former Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, and a committed servant of our country and our Party.”

The prime minister said Wisdom devoted many years of his life to the Progressive Liberal Party and public service, remaining committed to improving the lives of Bahamians.

“He believed deeply in the movement and in its responsibility to create opportunity, expand access, and improve the lives of Bahamians,” Davis said.

As a Member of Parliament, the prime minister said Wisdom carried the concerns of his constituents into national service and remained a respected member of the PLP family.

Davis also highlighted Wisdom’s significant contribution to the development of sports in The Bahamas during his time as Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture.

“As Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Neville understood the power of sports to shape young lives, build discipline, create opportunity, and strengthen national pride,” Davis said.

The prime minister added that Wisdom supported the development of Bahamian athletes and helped advance programmes and institutions that gave young people opportunities to pursue excellence both at home and internationally.

Davis said Wisdom also recognized the importance of culture to the country’s national identity and understood the government’s responsibility to invest in the talent and creativity of the Bahamian people.

“Neville’s service spanned politics, Parliament, sports, culture, and community life,” Davis said. “He leaves behind a record of service to his Party and to The Bahamas.”
