In a heated exchange between party leaders, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has sharply criticized Opposition Leader Michael Pintard’s defense of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Philip Davis accused Pintard of being a “water boy” for the Grand Bahama Port Authority, a claim Pintard vehemently denied.
At a press conference today, Pintard said, “The only people I’m carrying water for is the folks in Eleuthera who can’t get water from this government.”
Pintard also emphasized his commitment to fighting for Grand Bahamian interests, stating, “All we’ve been doing is fighting.”
The PLP’s response was swift, asserting, “In a press conference called to dispel the idea that he has been a water boy for the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the Leader of The Opposition Michael Pintard repeated the Grand Bahama Port Authority’s talking points once again.”
The PLP accused Pintard of parroting the Port Authority’s defense and failing to provide substantive critiques or solutions regarding its role in Grand Bahama’s development.
The governing party further criticized Pintard’s past performance, stating, “As Chairman of the FNM (before he was forced to resign from that post in scandal), as a long-time MP for a Grand Bahama constituency, and in nearly three years as a Leader of the FNM, Michael Pintard has never stood up and enumerated the ways in which the Port Authority is failing the people of Grand Bahama.”
The PLP also took a swipe at Pintard's recent change in stance, noting, “It is only this week (!), after he fumbled badly while issuing a confused word salad response to an inquiry about whether he had taken a $5 million donation from the Grand Bahama Port Authority, that Michael Pintard for the first time discovered his voice on the topic.”
The party dismissed Pintard’s efforts as a distraction from his track record and questioned his commitment to transparency and accountability.
The PLP's statement concluded, “We think Mr. Pintard is underestimating Bahamians. He thinks if he drowns Bahamians in false attacks and accusations, we’ll get distracted from his record of standing on the side of the Port Authority instead of the people.”
