Pay raises for hundreds of Govt workers in December

The Government has completed its salary review exercise for public officers not previously covered under earlier pay adjustments, bringing long-awaited increases for hundreds of government employees.

According to an official statement, the updated salaries will take effect during the December 2025 pay period, with retroactive payments going back to September 1, 2025.

Public servants excluded from the June adjustment will receive a minimum of two salary increments, with the size of increases varying by job category.

This latest salary update applies to all non-contractual public officers across various sectors of government. The review is intended to reduce the wage gap between the public service and other parts of the broader public sector — particularly for those who have not benefited from trade union negotiations in recent years.

“Increases to base compensation over the last four years now range from 8 percent to 31 percent, with the largest boosts going to entry-level employees,” the release stated.

College graduates, including graduate nurses and teachers, will have seen a 19 percent increase in base pay over the same period.

The government emphasized that the salary adjustments are a part of its broader effort to promote economic fairness and opportunity for Bahamian workers.

“This salary review ensures fairness for those who serve in government, strengthens confidence in the public service, and provides families with more security and affordability,” the statement read.

Prime Minister Philip Davis previously committed to completing this salary review during the 2024/25 Budget Communication. Officials say this move builds on the administration’s progress in lowering unemployment to its lowest level since 2008, and aligns with ongoing reforms to modernize the government and boost professional development — particularly for young graduates entering the public sector.
