A tragic fire incident on Rupert Dean Lane has claimed the life of a five-year-old boy and left three others hospitalized with severe burns, prompting an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The incident occurred on Monday around 12:45 p.m., when hospital personnel at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) alerted authorities that four toddlers were being treated in the trauma room for extensive burn injuries.

The children had been left in the care of a relative while their mother sought assistance from a government agency. The relative allegedly fell asleep and later awoke to find the children severely burned and the bedroom partially on fire.

All four children were rushed to PMH for emergency treatment. Tragically, a five-year-old later died from his injuries. The other three children continue to receive medical attention.
