Golden Gates Member of Parliament Pia Glover-Rolle says she has formally written to the executive management of Bahamas Power and Light, demanding an explanation for the persistent electricity interruptions that have plagued the constituency throughout the summer.

In a Facebook post, Glover-Rolle said residents have been forced to endure multiple outages during the day and night, creating growing frustration and hardship for families and businesses alike.

"For weeks, constituents have endured repeated interruptions to their electricity supply, often several times throughout the day and night," she said.

The Golden Gates MP said the complaints have been relentless, with her constituency office receiving daily calls, messages, photographs and pleas from residents who say they have reached their breaking point.

According to Glover-Rolle, families are losing hundreds of dollars in spoiled groceries, parents are struggling to care for young children in sweltering conditions, and seniors and people living with chronic illnesses are being exposed to dangerous levels of heat. She added that small businesses are also suffering financial losses while many residents are unable to get adequate rest or remain productive because of the repeated disruptions.

Seeking accountability, Glover-Rolle said she has asked BPL to provide four key responses: an explanation for the outages, details of any interim measures to reduce disruptions, a timeline for permanent corrective work, and regular updates for residents and her constituency office.

She also requested a meeting with the utility's executive and technical teams within the coming week.

Glover-Rolle said she intends to update Golden Gates residents by the end of the week on BPL's response to her concerns.
