A fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) station in Fresh Creek, Andros, after a trailer on the property caught fire, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the air and causing widespread power outages across the area.

The blaze is believed to have started around 5:00 a.m., and eyewitnesses reported seeing heavy smoke visible from miles away.

Sources familiar with the situation revealed that only one person is typically manning the station.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The fire has disrupted power supply for many residents in Central Andros, prompting an urgent response from BPL and government officials. The team at BPL, led by CEO Toni Seymour, is currently working around the clock to restore power to affected communities. Minister of Energy and Transport JoBeth Coleby-Davis is also actively engaged in overseeing restoration efforts and coordinating resources.

An investigation into the exact cause of the fire has been launched.
