A former cop accused of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter has been acquitted.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was accused of forcing his daughter to perform oral sex before sexually penetrating her at their home in March 2021.
In closing remarks, the prosecution urged the jury to accept the girl's version of events as consistent, reliable and true as a medical report showed vaginal trauma.
However, the defense said the girl was a liar. The daughter insisted her testimony was true.
She admitted that she had told police that she’d lied on her father when she tried to withdraw the complaint months later.
However, she said that she renounced her statement on direction from her father.
The jury unanimously acquitted the man of incest after deliberating for about an hour.
