Senator Darron Pickstock has announced his resignation from the Senate with immediate effect, just days after being ratified as the Progressive Liberal Party’s (PLP) candidate for the upcoming Golden Isles by-election, set for November 24.
In a heartfelt statement delivered to the Upper Chamber, Pickstock described his time in the Senate as a profound honor and a period of meaningful public service.
“Serving as a Senator has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” he said. “It has given me the opportunity to lend my voice to the cause of progress and to witness the dedication of so many who serve this nation. I am grateful to the Prime Minister for his confidence and to my colleagues in the Senate for their friendship and support.”
Pickstock also extended special appreciation to Senate President Lashell Adderley, praising her leadership and spiritual guidance during his tenure.
“You have reminded us all that service is sacred work and that humility and prayer are as important in leadership as policy and debate,” he said. “As a woman of faith, your example has inspired many, and I join Bahamians in thanking you for the dignity and wisdom you bring to the role of President.”
Explaining his decision to step down, Pickstock said it followed “much reflection and prayer,” and was driven by his desire to engage more directly with Bahamians at the community level.
“This decision comes from a place of gratitude and conviction,” he noted. “I believe my next chapter is to serve closer to the people, to be on the ground working with families, small businesses, and young people who want to see change that they can touch and feel.”
Pickstock expressed deep gratitude to the Bahamian people for their support and encouragement throughout his political journey.
“Every story I have heard and every hand I have shaken reminds me why this work matters,” he said. “I remain committed to building a Bahamas where hard work opens doors, opportunity is within reach, and faith continues to light our path forward.”
The Golden Isles seat became vacant following the death of Member of Parliament Vaughn Miller last month, triggering the by-election.
Pickstock’s candidacy was confirmed by the PLP at a recent ratification event, where party officials described him as a “dedicated public servant with a heart for the people.”
With his Senate resignation now official, Pickstock is expected to turn his full attention to the campaign trail as the November 24 by-election approaches.
