Retired Anglican Archbishop Drexel Gomez has died. The sad news comes five months after he was hospitalized.
At the time, his family said in a statement, “He has undergone surgery and is currently being treated for pneumonia. Also, he has been diagnosed with stomach cancer, which is being addressed. Archbishop Drexel is lucid and not in any pain.
“We ask people of goodwill everywhere to join us during this Lenten season in giving thanks for him and in praying for him – for his well-being and healing, for his continued life of service to God, and for his continued example of prayer and faithful devotion to our Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Prime Minister Philip Davis said he and his wife, Ann Marie, were heartbroken to learn of Gomez’s hospitalization and cancer diagnosis.
Archbishop Gomez, who retired at 70, has remained active in the Anglican church and is widely respected in the region and in international circles as a religious and thought leader.
