Senior prison officer accused of smuggling drugs into BDOCS

A high-ranking corrections officer has been charged with bringing drugs into the prison.

Chief Officer Herman Major pleaded not guilty to drug possession with intent to supply and introducing prohibited items into a correctional facility at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel Mckinney.

Prosecutors allege that on April 20, the 62-year-old smuggled 5 ¾ ounces of marijuana inside a pair of tennis shoes for an inmate.

Major pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted $1,500 bail.

He returns to court on June 8 for trial.
