Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, brother of King Charles, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, marking a dramatic development involving the younger brother of the King.
Authorities indicated that the suspected wrongdoing is connected to his tenure as the United Kingdom’s special representative for international trade and investment, a post he stepped down from in 2011.
In a response issued through Buckingham Palace, the King said he received news of the arrest “with the deepest concern” and underscored that “the law must take its course,” signaling that the matter would be left to the judicial process.
Photographs showed officers at Mountbatten-Windsor’s home on the Sandringham House estate in Norfolk. Police have not disclosed specific details about the alleged misconduct but confirmed that the arrest follows a review of longstanding allegations.
Investigators have previously examined claims that a woman was trafficked to Britain by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for a sexual encounter with Mountbatten-Windsor. There have also been accusations that sensitive information may have been shared with Epstein during the former prince’s time as trade envoy.
Mountbatten-Windsor has repeatedly rejected all allegations. He has maintained that he neither witnessed nor had knowledge of the criminal conduct attributed to Epstein.
Police said inquiries are continuing.
