The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has selected Senator Randy Rolle as its standard-bearer for the newly created Bimini and Berry Islands constituency ahead of the 2026 general election.
The decision was taken by the party’s National General Council following a round of interviews with prospective candidates. Rolle and Tasha Hamilton were both considered for the nomination, but the council ultimately voted in favor of Rolle.
The Bimini and Berry Islands seat is one of two new constituencies established under the 2026 Boundaries Commission report, which separated Bimini from West Grand Bahama in a bid to improve representation and address population and geographic considerations.
Rolle currently serves as chairman of the Consumer Protection Commission and is a sitting PLP senator. He is also a former diplomat, experience party officials say positions him well to represent the interests of island communities at the national level.
The Bimini area is presently represented as part of the combined West Grand Bahama and Bimini constituency by MP Kingsley Smith. However, following the Boundaries Commission’s decision to separate the two islands, Smith has indicated that he intends to seek re-election in West Grand Bahama in this year’s general election, leaving the newly formed Bimini and Berry Islands seat open.
