PLP candidate Robyn Lynes made her official entry into the Killarney race in a high-profile nomination appearance at Gambier Primary School, accompanied by Dame Marguerite Pindling, former governor general and widow of the country’s first prime minister, the late Sir Lynden Pindling.

Lynes arrived surrounded by an enthusiastic group of supporters, adding to the significance of the moment as she formally submitted her nomination papers ahead of the May 12 general election.

Describing the process as smooth and efficient, Lynes expressed satisfaction at reaching the milestone. “The process was easy and fast, and I’m just happy that my name is officially on the ballot,” she said.

Although no stranger to public service, having served in the Senate, Lynes is contesting a general election for the first time. Her candidacy marks a notable development in Killarney, a constituency long regarded as a stronghold of the Free National Movement (FNM).

However, the political landscape in the area has shifted in recent weeks. Internal divisions within the FNM have led to former party leader Dr. Hubert Minnis entering the race as an independent candidate, potentially splitting the traditional vote base.

That development could open a path for Lynes and the PLP to make significant inroads in the constituency, setting the stage for a closely watched contest on Election Day.

With her nomination now secured, Lynes and her campaign team are expected to intensify outreach efforts as the race for Killarney gains momentum.
