Attorney Owen Wells made a spirited entrance at Adelaide Primary School today, flanked by family members and an energetic crowd of supporters as he officially filed his nomination as the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) candidate for the St. James constituency.
Supporters waved placards and donned party paraphernalia, creating a festive atmosphere as the first-time candidate arrived to complete the process ahead of the upcoming general election.
“I’m excited, I feel great. Behind me everyone is excited. Election Day is upon us and guess what — two straight PLP all the way,” Wells declared, expressing confidence in his campaign and the party’s prospects.
Wells is contesting the newly formed St. James constituency, located in western New Providence. The area is one of two new constituencies established in the lead-up to the May 12 general election, reflecting shifting population dynamics and the need for updated representation.
Despite being new to frontline politics, Wells has been actively engaging with residents in recent weeks. His campaign has focused on direct outreach, including door-to-door visits and community events aimed at hearing firsthand the concerns and priorities of constituents.
In addition to listening efforts, Wells has already begun championing tangible improvements within the community. These include road works and upgrades to public spaces, initiatives he says are part of his commitment to enhancing infrastructure and quality of life in St. James.
With nomination day now complete, Wells and his supporters are gearing up for the final stretch of the campaign, as voters prepare to head to the polls on May 12.
