A tense confrontation unfolded at the T.G. Glover Primary School nomination center as Coalition of Independents (COI) leader Lincoln Bain attempted—unsuccessfully—to block the nomination of Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) candidate for Fort Charlotte, Sebastian Bastian.
Bain, accompanied by a group of supporters, entered the nomination venue and challenged the legitimacy of Bastian’s candidacy, alleging that Bastian holds government contracts that would disqualify him from running. The disruption briefly heightened tensions at the site, drawing the attention of election officials and party representatives.
Bastian, however, pushed back strongly against the claims, arguing that Bain’s objections were premature and unfounded. He noted that the COI leader moved to challenge his nomination before he had even formally submitted his documents for review.
“This is nothing more than grandstanding,” Bastian said, dismissing the allegations. He further ridiculed claims that he holds $50 million in government contracts, joking that if such assertions were true, he would gladly give Bain $5 million.
Despite the confrontation, election officials proceeded with the process, and Bastian was successfully nominated as the PLP’s candidate for Fort Charlotte.
PLP representatives maintained that there were no issues with Bastian’s nomination and characterized Bain’s actions as a political stunt aimed at generating attention rather than raising legitimate concerns.
