High-profile attorney Owen Wells is considering a run for the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) in the newly created St. James constituency, party insiders confirmed.

Wells was spotted sitting in the public gallery of the House of Assembly on Wednesday morning as the long-awaited boundaries report was tabled, formally outlining the creation of St. James.

The new constituency is located in western New Providence and comprises sections of Killarney and Golden Isles.

His presence at the House has fueled speculation about his political ambitions, particularly as the PLP moves to finalize its slate of candidates amid an ongoing push to attract a new generation of leadership.

Wells has built a formidable reputation in the legal profession, earning recognition for his work on several high-profile cases. Among the most notable was his role in the defense of Donna Vasyli, who was acquitted of the murder of her husband in a case that drew national and international attention

Last year, Wells was also seen entering PLP headquarters during a period when the party was actively interviewing prospective candidates, further adding to speculation that he was being vetted for frontline politics.

A husband and father, Wells is widely regarded within political circles as a strong potential candidate who could bolster the PLP’s appeal among professionals and younger voters.

Party sources describe him as a “good get” for the governing party, which has been vocal about renewing its ranks with accomplished Bahamians.

The PLP has indicated it plans to complete the ratification of all its candidates before the end of the month, positioning itself early ahead of the upcoming general election.
