Bahamian social media personality Cindy Patrice Daxon has responded to rumors suggesting she was deported from Canada after a video showing her and her family being escorted through Lynden Pindling International Airport went viral.
Daxon, a Grand Bahama native, took to social media to set the record straight, clarifying that she was not deported but had voluntarily left Canada because living in the country had become “depressing”.
The video, which circulated widely on social platforms, showed Daxon and her family being escorted by immigration and police officers through the airport upon their return to the Bahamas.
Daxon had lived in Canada for six years before returning to The Bahamas.
According to Daxon, five of her children’s Bahamian passports had expired while the family was in Canada, and emergency passports had to be issued through the Bahamian Consul General’s office in Toronto before they could return to the Bahamas. She noted that if they had been deported, there wouldn’t have been a need to get the white passports.
Daxon also touched on the fact that the police escort through the airport was linked to rumors and speculation surrounding her immigration status, not because of any legal trouble. She acknowledged having some outstanding civil matters and traffic tickets in Canada, which she plans to resolve this week.
Known for her outspoken and sometimes controversial political opinions on social media, Daxon has cultivated a large and loyal following, particularly in the Bahamas.
Her candid nature and willingness to address hot-button issues have made her a polarizing figure, but also one with a loyal fanbase.
