Young police officer charged with double stabbing

A 23-year-old policeman has been charged with stabbing two men at a club on Andros Avenue.

Constable Vernon Varence, of Palm Beach Street, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt today in connection with the incident at Polo Club on September 5.

Varence is charged with grievous harm in the stabbing of Nolin Flowers, who was listed in stable condition.

The officer is charged with causing harm to Kashif Satchell, who received less serious injuries.

Constable Varence pleaded not guilty to the charges and the chief magistrate adjourned the matter to December 3.

His lawyer Keith Bell has applied for emergency bail so the officer can avoid remand at the prison.
