With growing interest among prominent Bahamians to represent the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) in this year’s general election, tensions flared last night during a closed Southern Shores Branch Association meeting of the PLP as the party moves forward with its selection process for the Southern Shores constituency.

The meeting, held at PLP headquarters, was marked by heated exchanges both inside the session and among supporters gathered outside.

Party members heard presentations from two prospective candidates: ZNS General Manager Clint Watson and Obie Roberts, the son of former PLP Chairman, the late Bradley Roberts.

Supporters of both hopefuls engaged in sharp verbal confrontations, sparked by allegations that some individuals backing one candidate or the other were not in good standing with the party and therefore were not eligible to voice support.

Southern Shores is currently represented by first-term Member of Parliament Leroy Major; however, he is not expected to receive another party nomination.

The PLP is expected to ratify its remaining slate of candidates later this month as preparations intensify for the upcoming general election.
