Director General of Tourism Joy Jibrulu was no longer happy at the Ministry of Tourism and had intended to move on before she was replaced, according to well-placed sources.
Jibrulu, who was appointed DG under the Christie Administration in 2014, is rumored to be a supporter of the Free National Movement (FNM) and was not sure of her place in the Ministry of Tourism after the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) took office in September 2021.
Former Deputy Director General Ellison “Tommy” Thompson was eyed as her replacement. Thompson was said to be open to the idea of returning to the ministry. However, before the new government could act, Thompson decided to accept a major position abroad as CEO of the St. Kitts Tourist Authority at the beginning of the year.
Before joining Tourism, Jibrilu was the director of The Bahamas Investment Authority under the Office of the Prime Minister.
She previously served as legal advisor in the Ministry of Finance between 2007 and 2008 and as a consultant to the Ministry of Financial Services and Investment between 2005 and 2007.
