Political tensions reached a boiling point today as six Opposition Members of Parliament were suspended.

Michael Pintard, Shanendon Cartwright, Adrian White, Adrian Gibson, Iram Lewis and Kwasi Thompson were suspended for two sittings beginning today.

Lewis was not present for the proceedings. Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis who was not present in Parliament when opposition members were removed last week, was not suspended.

The men left the House of Assembly after being suspended.

They were removed from the House of Assembly last week after they attempted to shield St. Barnabas MP Shanendon Cartwright who threw the mace out of the window.

Deveaux ordered that the FNM Deputy Leader be removed but he resisted, resulting in police being called in. Prime Minister Philip Davis called their actions unhinged.

The FNM also held a protest outside Parliament last week in response to a high-profile indictment that revealed charges against several Bahamians, including three law enforcement officers, connected to a drug trafficking operation.

The indictment, which was unsealed, has sent shockwaves through the nation.

The governing PLP has dismissed the FNM's calls for several resignations and a Commission of Inquiry as politically motivated.

PLP supporters showed up in party paraphernalia in support of the governing party.
