An aggressive 10-foot shark attacked a man on Sweeting’s Cay on Friday evening.
The man was diving for fish in waters off East End Point after 5pm when the shark went on the attack and bit him.
The victim received serious injuries to his right arm, particularly his wrist area.
He was rushed by Emergency Medical Services personnel from McCleans Town to Rand Memorial Hospital.
His injuries are listed as serious but non-life threatening.
He is said to be in stable condition and will have to undergo surgery.
Unprovoked shark attacks are rare. In a ten-year period ending in 2016, the Bahamas saw just four shark attacks, and only one was deadly.
However in 2019, there were two shark attacks reported within weeks of each other.
On June 26, 2019 American tourist Jordan Lindsey was killed when she was attacked by three sharks off the coast of Rose Island.
