In a surprise move, seven men arrested in relation to a $15 million drug bust will be tried in the Supreme Court.
Julio Casadiego, John Pena, Mickey Albert, Jerry Pierre, Chesley Armaly, Robert McSweeney and Demario Ferguson were denied the right to enter pleas to charges of conspiracy to import drugs and abetment to import drugs after being told they will be tried before a judge and jury.
Prosecutors allege that between October 1 and December 6, the men conspired with others to import 769 kilos and 25 pounds of marijuana into Spring Point, Acklins.
They’re also accused of abetting the smugglers on December 6.
Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux remanded the men to prison until April 19.
They’re expected to receive a voluntary bill of indictment on that date.
Police said that they received reports of a plane trying to land on an airstrip on Spring Point around 2am.
The plane crash-landed and two men were seen running from the bushes. Police found the drug haul while searching the plane.
Interesting that all of a sudden drug traffickers are now being caught after the US Indictment...things that make you go hmmm....(no more cover ups)
