Three political hopefuls are positioning themselves for the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) nomination in St. Anne’s, a constituency long regarded as a safe seat for the Free National Movement (FNM).

Former ZNS sportscaster Christopher Saunders, entrepreneur Keno Wong and Latorna McPhee all appeared before the PLP Candidates Committee on Tuesday evening as the party ramps up preparations ahead of the next general election.

The interviews, held at PLP headquarters, are part of a wider effort by the party to energize its base. St. Anne’s is currently represented by FNM incumbent Adrian White, but party insiders say interest in the constituency reflects a growing belief within PLP ranks that the political landscape there may be shifting.

Saunders is no stranger to the St. Anne’s race. He previously carried the PLP banner in the constituency but fell short. This time, however, he has indicated that conditions on the ground are more favorable, pointing to voter fatigue and a desire for fresh representation as factors that could work in the party’s favor.

His prior experience, supporters say, gives him insight into the constituency’s challenges and expectations.

Wong, entering the political arena from the business community, is presenting himself as a problem-solver with an entrepreneurial mindset. His interest underscores the PLP’s appeal to candidates outside traditional political circles, as the party seeks to broaden its slate with individuals it believes can connect with a changing electorate.

McPhee, meanwhile, has emerged as another confident contender, adding to what party officials describe as a competitive and healthy nomination process.

All three hopefuls have expressed optimism about their chances, despite St. Anne’s reputation as an FNM stronghold.
