Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander has discharged two officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force following a U.S. indictment related to a major drug trafficking operation.
Sergeant #2373 Prince Symonette was formally discharged from the force on December 2, 2024, in accordance with Section 21(1)(c) of the Police Act 2009.
This decision follows Symonette’s indictment in a Federal Court in New York, which had garnered significant attention.
Additionally, Chief Superintendent Elvis Nathaniel Curtis, who was the officer in charge of the Airport Police Station, has been recommended for official discharge.
The recommendation is based on Curtis's inability to maintain the necessary standards of efficiency required for his position.
Police said in a statement, his dismissal is in the best interest of the public and reflects the need to ensure that all officers within the force uphold the highest level of professionalism and effectiveness.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the organization’s commitment to upholding the integrity and professionalism of the force and assured the public that these actions were taken after thorough consideration and in alignment with the force’s regulations and standards.
