Pyramid Construction, headed by contractor Chris Harris, has signed a $3.17 million agreement with the government for the construction of a new Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) supply storage facility at HMBS Coral Harbour.

Harris expressed enthusiasm about the project, which is set to begin within a few weeks and is expected to be completed in 12 months. He also highlighted the employment opportunities it will create.

“The manpower will vary at different stages. It will range from 20 to 50 workers on-site at all times,” Harris said.

Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe described the project as a significant step in the continued modernization of the RBDF.

“The supply storage building is one of seven facilities planned under the Sandy Bottom Project — a major defense initiative launched under a previous PLP administration,” Munroe said.

He noted that the Sandy Bottom Project represents a $232 million investment by the government of The Bahamas, which includes the acquisition of nine patrol vessels and the dredging of several harbours across the Family Islands.

“Today marks the next significant milestone as we officially sign the contract for the construction of a 15,000-square-foot supply storage building,” said Munroe. “This structure represents the first phase in the long-term redevelopment of HMBS Coral Harbour Base. Once completed, all storage currently housed in the unfinished hotel will be relocated to this purpose-built facility.”
