The Ministry of Works and Family Island Affairs has announced the formal establishment of the Board of Directors for Bahamix Limited, marking a major milestone in the Government’s modernization and restructuring of its roadworks operations.
At the helm of this new era is prominent attorney Owen Wells, who has been appointed Chairman of Bahamix Limited.
Wells, widely respected for his legal acumen and decades of leadership in both the public and private sectors, is expected to bring a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and governance expertise to the newly incorporated company.
Bahamians know Wells as a distinguished attorney whose career has been defined by success in several high-profile court cases. His appointment signals a commitment to strengthening corporate oversight and ensuring the highest standards of transparency and accountability within Bahamix’s operations.
“We have been given a mandate and we intend to fulfill that mandate,” said Wells following the announcement. “We look forward to the Bahamian people seeing exactly what we do going forward.”
The full Board of Directors includes:
• Owen Wells – Chairman
• Sandy Morley
• Stiene Leedee Campbell
• John Gibson
• Quintin Carey
Permanent Secretary Dr. Anya Symonette will serve as an ex-officio member.
The inaugural Board Meeting took place on Tuesday at Bahamix Limited’s new offices on Fire Trail Road West.
Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs Clay Sweeting described the appointment of the Board, and particularly the selection of Wells as Chairman, as a significant step toward strengthening institutional efficiency within the public works sector.
“For decades, Bahamix has been a vital part of the Government’s road maintenance system,” Minister Sweeting said. “However, its structure limited its ability to perform at full capacity.
Under Mr. Wells’s leadership, Bahamix Limited will benefit from the strategic direction needed to operate with greater autonomy, accountability, and efficiency.”
The incorporation of Bahamix Limited transforms it into an independent entity associated with the Ministry, allowing it to deliver asphalt production and road maintenance services across New Providence with improved financial and operational flexibility.
