Prime Minister Philip Davis joined government officials and family members on Labour Day to honor the memory of four women who lost their lives during the tragic incident that occurred at the Sir Randol Fawkes Labour Day Parade on June 1, 2018.

The solemn observance paid tribute to Tabitha Haye, Tami Gibson, Dianne Ferguson and Kathleen Fernander, whose deaths shocked the nation during what is traditionally a day of celebration and solidarity for Bahamian workers.

Eight years after the tragedy, Davis, accompanied by Minister of Labour Pia Glover-Rolle and several Cabinet ministers, visited the site where the women died. They paused for a moment of reflection and remembrance before meeting with and greeting members of the victims’ families.

Davis noted the significance of Labour Day as an occasion when workers unite to demonstrate solidarity and advocate for their shared interests.

“These women lost their lives during a seminal event where workers gather to show solidarity,” Davis said.

The 2018 Labour Day tragedy remains one of the most heartbreaking incidents associated with the annual parade.
