A growing crowd of anxious visitors formed a long line outside Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) this afternoon after being denied entry, citing a power outage as the reason behind the sudden restriction.
Family members and friends of patients at the facility lined the hospital’s main driveway and the line grew steadily throughout the evening. Some people arrived carrying umbrellas, care packages, and concern only to be met with closed doors.
After waiting for over an hour, security started allowing visitors into the facility four at a time after the generator eventually kicked in.
Many in the crowd said they were notified, either via phone or upon arrival, that the hospital was experiencing an “interruption in power supply.”
“It’s heartbreaking,” said Monique Rolle, whose mother was admitted to the hospital just two days ago. “We just want to see our loved ones or at least get updates. No one’s telling us anything clear.”
At times, a light drizzle swept over the waiting crowd. Despite the rain, most remained, some standing under umbrellas, others braving the weather.
Several individuals reported that hospital security and staff provided limited information, asking people to “be patient” while technical teams worked to resolve the issue.
