Prime Minister Philip Davis and Minister of Housing and Land Reform Keith Bell are expected to hand over keys to new homeowners in San Salvador on Monday as the government continues its push to expand affordable housing opportunities throughout The Bahamas.

The ceremony in will take place at Cockburn Town Subdivision, a new affordable housing development on Bastian Street where recipients are set to officially receive their new homes.

The development forms part of the government’s wider housing programme aimed at helping more Bahamians achieve homeownership, particularly in the Family Islands.

Back in June, Bell announced that the government planned to construct more than 900 homes across the country as part of an expansion of its affordable housing initiatives.

The planned developments include New Providence, Abaco, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Exuma and San Salvador, with the programme expected to include both individual homes and larger subdivisions.

The government has said the overall goal is to make homeownership more accessible to Bahamians while expanding housing opportunities beyond New Providence.
