The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) is expected to ratify 14 additional candidates this week following a meeting of its National General Council scheduled for tomorrow night, as the governing party continues to gear up for a general election due this year.
Among those slated for ratification are several incumbent members of Parliament, including Freetown MP Wayne Munroe, Marathon MP Lisa Rahming, Yamacraw MP Zane Lightbourne, Bamboo Town MP Patricia Deveaux, and Bain and Grants Town MP Wayde Watson.
The anticipated ratifications follow a round of interviews conducted by the party’s Candidates Committee last night, during which a number of political hopefuls made their case to represent the PLP on the next general election ballot.
Appearing before the committee were St Anne’s hopefuls Christopher Saunders, Keno Wong and Latorna McPhee, along with former senator Robyn Lynes, Omanique Bowe, and Tasha Bullard Hamilton.
PLP officials have indicated that this week’s slate will not be the final round of candidate approvals. Another group of candidates is expected to be ratified later this month as the party continues to finalize its full lineup.
With a general election constitutionally due this year, both major political parties have intensified preparations, with candidate ratifications seen as a key step in mobilizing constituency organizations and solidifying campaign strategies nationwide.
