Mother charged after son, 11, drowns

A 41-year-old mother faces two counts of cruelty to children in connection with the drowning death of her 11-year-old son.

Prosecutors say Stephanie Hanna’s neglect resulted in the August 2 drowning death of her son, Gerodo Taylor Jr.

The preteen was found drowned in a pond near the Golf Academy at the National Sports Centre after 5pm but Hanna took two days to report her dead son missing.

He was officially identified on August 5.

Hanna, of Exuma Street, pleaded not guilty at her arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain today.

She was granted $7,000 bail and she returns to court for trial on November 14.
