The Ministry of Works office in Marsh Harbour, Abaco has been locked out of its premises due to non-payment of rent. The landlord took action after months of outstanding payments, including approximately $89,000 for requested renovations and over $70,000 in unpaid rent.

Rent for the property is due before the 10th of each month. Despite repeated past-due notices and attempts to resolve the issue directly with ministry officials, the matter remained unsettled.

On August 7th, the landlord issued a final warning, stating that if payments were not brought up to date by August 31st, the Ministry would be asked to vacate the building.

When residents visited the office on Monday, they were met with locked doors and an empty building, sparking frustration and confusion among those who rely on the office for essential services such as submitting building plans and arranging electrical inspections.

The situation has raised broader concerns about government priorities, with some residents questioning how a critical department could be allowed to fall so far behind on rent while funds appear to be allocated elsewhere.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Ministry addressing the lockout or plans to restore services on the island.
