Man killed on Balfour Avenue

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

The Gallery is on the scene of a shooting on Balfour Avenue, where a man was gunned down moments ago.

Police have been called to the scene and indicated the shooting victim has been pronounced dead.

The Gallery understands the victim is the owner of Village Pub on Balfour Avenue and Miami Street. We’re told the deceased businessman is Roberto Williams, 46.

According to RBPF Press Liaison ASP Audley Peters, a man exited Village Pub and was walking east along Balfour Avenue when a dark-colored Nissan pulled up. A gunman exited the vehicle, approached the victim and shot him multiple times. Peters said the man had gunshot wounds to the back.

Police began receiving reports of the shooting incident outside of Village Pub shortly before 10pm Tuesday.

When they arrived on the scene, officers met the victim lying on the sidewalk. EMS personnel were called in and he was pronounced dead.

Peters said the business appeared to be operating past curfew but no arrests were made as officers were dealing with the more urgent matter of the man’s murder.

He was reportedly killed at the popular hangout, which was recently raided by police for breaking COVID regulations.

One of the persons arrested during that raid last month after the 10pm curfew is the daughter of Immigration Minister Elsworth Johnson.

The scene is active and officers have launched a preliminary investigation to determine what happened in the moments leading up to the man’s death.

Tonight’s homicide comes hours after National Security Minister Marvin Dames announced that the murder rate has decreased by “close to 30 percent”.

On Monday, a 30-year-old Dunkin Donuts employee and her eight-year-old daughter were killed in their beds at the woman’s home in Nassau Village.
