A Caucasian man attempted to take his own life on Friday afternoon by driving his white Nissan Skyline off the Montague Beach ramp and into the water.

The man attempted suicide shortly after 3pm.

However, two men hanging out at the ramp noticed his suicide attempt and immediately jumped into the water to save the man.

Onlookers recorded videos as the men raced to the submerged car to save the man. However, he appeared to try and fight off his rescuers.

Nevertheless, the men were determined to get him out of the vehicle.

“Look at this white man come out here to commit suicide,” one onlooker yelled.

“He reversed from up there and punch gas,” another said.

One of the men was successful in rescuing the man from the vehicle by opening the back passenger door. He was conscious and coherent when he was brought out of the water, according to police.

He was later transported to hospital via Emergency Medical Services.

Police were called to the scene and are investigating the attempted suicide.
