A 29-year-old man is charged with murdering his grandmother and attempted to murder his mother inside their home.
Rico Pratt is accused of fatally stabbing 69-year-old Gelena Pratt and the attempted murder of his mother, Aretha Pratt on December 4.
Police were called to the family’s home at Shabbach Close, off Bellot Road, around 10am after his mother ran from the house screaming for help. Aretha Pratt was bleeding from the neck.
Police met the grandmother dead in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor. She had sustained multiple stab wounds.
Pratt was not required to enter pleas to the charges of murder and attempted murder when he made his initial court appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.
She remanded Pratt to prison and adjourned the matter to April 22, 2021.
