Man accused of trying to sell home he didn’t own

A man has been accused of attempting to sell a home that he didn’t own.

Prosecutors say Tameko Bannister, also known as Timicko Christie, swindled Tia Knowles out of a $20,000 down payment on the home in Eastwood.

Knowles had responded to an ad for a house for sale.

But the home didn’t belong to Bannister; neither was it for sale.

After she was unable to take possession of the house, or get her money back, Knowles reported the matter to police.

Police arrested Bannister last week soon after they issued a wanted poster for him.

He denied a charge of fraud by false pretenses at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes, who adjourned the matter to March 31, 2021 for trial.

Bannister was denied bail. However, he can apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
