Magistrates Court Accounts Dept urged to keep quiet on COVID case

Staff in the Accounts Department of the Magistrates Court have been warned to keep their mouths shut about a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19.

Employees of the department, which handles child support and court fine payments, were called into a meeting on Monday morning and informed that one of their colleagues has been infected.

However, they were cautioned to “keep quiet about it” because authorities fear that if the public finds out someone in the department has the virus, it will cause panic as dozens of people visit the department daily to pay fines imposed by Magistrates and collect child support cheques.

49 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,974.

43 of the new cases are on New Providence.
