The country is mourning the loss of Lindbergh Smith, a prominent businessman and visionary who passed away this morning.
Smith, best known as the owner of Blue Caribbean Crossings Bahamas, was a key figure in the country’s aviation and telecommunications industries.
Smith’s career spanned several decades, with his notable achievements shaping both the air travel and telecommunications landscapes of the Bahamas.
In 2013, he led Blue Caribbean Crossings Bahamas in a groundbreaking partnership with Western Air, providing air passenger service between the Bahamas and Cuba. This collaboration was designed to promote multi-destination travel, attracting both tourists and businesspersons to the region while simultaneously fostering cross-border opportunities between the two nations.
Before his time at Blue Caribbean Crossings, Smith was deeply involved in the telecommunications industry. He served as President of Blue Telecommunications Limited, a role in which he successfully orchestrated the acquisition of a majority stake in the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) from the Bahamas government.
Smith's tenure in the telecommunications sector also included his role as Telecom Design Engineer at BTC, where he worked from January 1984 until 2003.
His work during these years helped lay the foundation for the growth of the telecommunications infrastructure in The Bahamas.
May he rest in peace.
Amen and Amen....
