Lawmakers’ brother accused of child rape

A member of a well-known political family will be tried for a third time on allegations that he raped a little girl.

Landscaper Joseph Foulkes is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in the summer of 2012. The alleged victim is now 22.

He won the case on a directed acquittal last year. However, the Crown appealed and the Court of Appeal overturned the judge’s decision and ordered that he face another trial.

The accused rapist is the son of former Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes. He has three relatives in the current Free National Movement (FNM) government; two of them are Cabinet Ministers.

His brother Dion Foulkes is Labour Minister and his brother-in-law Carl Bethel is the Attorney General. His other brother, Michael Foulkes, is the parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Social Services.
