Minister of Education Jeff Lloyd has been tested for coronavirus and is in self-quarantine after he was exposed to a positive case.
Lloyd received a negative COVID-19 RT00-PCR test result on August 8, according to the statement from Cabinet Office this evening.
“Following the Ministry of Health’s protocols, Minister Lloyd was tested after learning he was exposed to a positive case,” according to the statement.
“Out of an abundance of caution and on advice, Minister Lloyd has voluntarily entered self- quarantine. He continues to perform his functions as Minister of Education, working remotely from home.”
This revelation comes one week after Ministry of Education employees recorded cleaning teams sanitizing headquarters on Thompson Boulevard. On Thursday, the Ministry revealed it took precautionary measures after learning that an employee had either tested positive or was exposed to a positive case. Employees were sent home.
Lloyd is the second Cabinet Minister to be tested for Covid-19 and quarantined. Last month, Deputy Prime Minister Peter Turnquest self-quarantined after his aide tested positive for the coronavirus. Turnquest said he took two Covid-19 tests and both were negative.
