Jamaican charged after cocaine shipped by courier

A Jamaican man is facing charges of drug importation after five kilos of cocaine were shipped into the country by courier.

Police arrested Dion Wain Crooks, 39, when he went to collect the boxes on December 2.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit and Customs Officers seized the cocaine, that would have sold for $80,000 on the streets, on November 24.

They took up surveillance—and waited for someone to collect the package. DEU swooped in when Crooks claimed the boxes this week.

Crooks, who is from St James, Jamaica, and lives in Pinewood Gardens, denied charges of drug importation, drug possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to commit the offenses at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

He’s been denied bail and returns to court for trial on January 19, 2021.
