Free National Movement member of parliament Iram Lewis has resigned from the political party to join the Coalition of Independents, led by Lincoln Bain.

Lewis, who was long rumored to have a fractured relationship with FNM Leader Michael Pintard, announced his departure in the House of Assembly.

The 59-year-old politician’s decision to join the Coalition of independents gives the party, which has been unsuccessful at the polls, its first seat in Parliament.

Lewis previously ran for leader of the FNM following its wipe-out in the 2021 General Election but he lost by a wide margin to Pintard.

Lewis previously served as a minister in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis.

There have long been questions about Pintard as a leader and whether he is fit to become prime minister. It is clear Lewis does not think he is.
