Nearly 50 illegal Haitian migrants were apprehended on Long Island this weekend shortly after their boat arrived onshore.
The group comprises 38 men and 9 women. Many of them were wearing face masks.
Clothing, pots, green bananas, water and sacks were discovered on the blue sloop which made it to land before being detected.
The illegal migrants will remain on Long Island, a magistrate will be flown in on Tuesday for their arraignment and officials will arrange to have them repatriated directly from that island.
